West Sundarban Wildlife Sanctuary has been declared as a new Wildlife Sanctuary under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, vide notification no. 1828-For dated 11.09.2013. It is situated in South 24-Parganas, covering the forest area of 556.45 sq. km. and comprising of Dulibhasani-1,2,3,4,5,6,7(part),8 and Chulkati-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. It is the 15th Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal.
Jaldapara Widllife Sanctuary has been notified as 6th National Park in West Bengal.
New areas from Kalimpong Division has been added to the Neora Valley National Park, the pristine forest land in Darjeeling district . The area now stands at 159.8917 Sq. km from 88.00 Sq. km before addition of new areas.
Search & Seizure operation of illegal wildlife trade in animal and animal body parts has got a boost with several successful operations in different locations of Kolkata. Large cache of Mongoose hair brush, mongoose hair, live turtles has been seized and the culprits had been brought to book under Wildlife(Protection) Act.
Camera Traps will be positioned in various locations of Buxa Tiger Reserve.
